Mirpur Sakro: Pressure on Minority Students to Convert to Islam at Government Girls High School; Sindh Education Minister Takes Notice
THATTO (Samaj News): Minority students of Government Girls High School Mirpur Sakro staged a strong protest against the alleged discriminatory behavior and pressure exerted by the school’s headmistress. With tearful eyes, the students told journalists that the headmistress had been continuously pressuring them to convert to Islam and repeatedly telling them, “Accept Islam if you want to study here… otherwise you have no right to come to this school.”
According to the students, when they refused to change their religion, the headmistress allegedly forced them out of the school by pushing them, after which the girls and their parents have been gripped with fear and anxiety. The protesters said that education is a basic right of every citizen, and such religious discrimination is not only a violation of the Constitution of Pakistan and the law, but also a serious breach of human rights.
Immediate Notice by Sindh Education Minister
After the matter surfaced in the media, Sindh’s Minister for Education, Syed Sardar Shah, took immediate notice of the incident and directed the District Education Officer Thatta to conduct a complete inquiry and reveal the facts.
In his statement, Sardar Shah said:
- “Minorities are the beauty of our country Pakistan, and any kind of injustice against them will not be tolerated.”
- He assured that the government is responsible for the education and protection of minority students and will not allow anyone to violate their fundamental rights.
- “Minority students should remain assured—every injustice done to them will be fully addressed.”
Parents’ Demand
The parents of the students have demanded that the Sindh government ensure a transparent investigation and take strict action against the responsible headmistress so that such incidents do not occur in the future.
