Karachi (Roshan Sindh) — Sindh’s Senior Minister for Transport, Sharjeel Inam Memon, has said that the Karachi Circular Railway (KCR) and the Karachi–Sukkur High-Speed Train are among the government’s top priorities and will prove to be game-changers for the province’s economic development. He urged the World Bank to play an active role in these major railway and transport projects.

He expressed these views during a meeting with a World Bank delegation in Karachi, where detailed discussions were held on improving urban mobility, strengthening the transport system, and future development models across the province.

Briefing the delegation on the World Bank–assisted Yellow Line BRT project, Memon said that one section of the Taj Haider Bridge has been completed, while work on the second section is progressing rapidly. He added that all decisions regarding the Yellow Line are being made with public interest and project efficiency in mind, but timely completion requires further and prompt support from the World Bank.

The senior minister reaffirmed that providing affordable and fast travel facilities to the public is the Sindh government’s clear commitment. He mentioned that the federal government handed over the Green Line BRT to the Sindh government earlier this year, after which its daily ridership has increased by a remarkable 33,000 passengers. According to him, Karachi needs more buses to improve urban mobility, and the World Bank’s assistance can play a crucial role in this sector.

Sharjeel Inam Memon added that the World Bank’s cooperation is essential not only for the Yellow Line BRT but also for future transport and railway projects.

The World Bank delegation appreciated the Sindh government’s initiatives in the transport sector, stating that Karachi is a key city in the region with a strategic position that offers vital access to Central Asia. The delegation also expressed interest in strong collaboration with the Sindh government on railway projects.

At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides agreed to enhance cooperation on major projects and efforts to improve urban transport.
