KARACHI: The Late Bashir Ahmed Siddiqui Hospital Block at the Malir branch of the Gambat Institute of Medical Sciences (GIMS) was jointly inaugurated on by MNA Abdul Hakeem Baloch, MPA Muhammad Saleem Baloch, and GIMS Hospital Director Captain (Retd) Dr. Raheem Bux Bhatti, in a move aimed at expanding advanced healthcare services for residents of Malir and surrounding areas.

The ceremony was attended by senior health officials, local representatives, and members of the Siddiqui family, including Jamil Ahmed Siddiqui.

Addressing the gathering, MNA Abdul Hakeem Baloch said the establishment of the Bashir Ahmed Siddiqui Hospital Block marked a “significant milestone” for healthcare in Malir.

He said that the Sindh government has planted a sapling here today that will soon grow into a shade-giving tree for the people of Malir. He said that residents of Malir were deeply grateful to Dr. Raheem Bux Bhatti for turning the long-held vision of accessible specialized care into reality.

Dr. Bhatti announced that basic outpatient departments and specialized clinics, including bone marrow, liver, gastroenterology and others would be operational within five days. He said GIMS specialists and surgeons would provide free consultations at the Malir facility, while patients requiring surgery would be transferred to the main GIMS Hospital in Gambat, where all procedures would be carried out free of cost.

He further said the Malir branch had already been equipped with modern medical machinery, with CT scan, ultrasound, X-ray, laboratory services and many others now functional.

MPA Muhammad Saleem Baloch lauded the Sindh government and Dr. Bhatti for introducing free-of-charge human organ transplant facilities at the Bashir Ahmed Siddiqui GIMS Hospital in Malir, a service he noted is currently available only at GIMS in the country. Considering the distance and travel burden for patients from Malir Karachi and nearby towns to Gambat, this facility will now enable diagnosis and treatment of cancer, liver, bone marrow and other diseases to be provided in Malir to international standards, he said.

The new block is part of GIMS’s ongoing efforts to decentralize specialized healthcare and reduce the burden on patients who previously had to travel long distances for treatment. Officials said the initiative would particularly benefit low-income families in Malir who lack access to advanced medical care.

The ceremony concluded with remarks from senior health officials and representatives of the Siddiqui family, who praised the collaboration between the provincial government and GIMS in strengthening the public healthcare network.
